This is one of the most important parts of your cooling system. When a water pump spins at high rpm, it creates quite a bit of suction on the bottom radiator hose as it tries to draw as much fluid as possible. If the suction is too great, the lower rad hose collapses and the engine is starved of cooling fluid causing overheating. This is why Ford put this simple spring inside every lower rad hose in the 1960s to prevent the hose from collapsing. Folks often replace their lower rad hoses, but forget to transfer the rusty old spring from their old hose to the new one. Make sure your car has a spring in the lower hose!!!!
