This antenna looks very much like the original antennas used by Ford from 1968-1973. The difference is how their length and how they attach to the fender. The original antennas were attached to the fender using 4 sheet metal screws that get covered up by a square stainless cover so there is no threaded nut used at all. All that sticks out of the base is the black plastic support stem that the shaft sticks up from. This antenna does not use screws at all as it has a threaded metal stem and you tighten a chrome nut down to clamp the antenna in place like the 1965-1968 antennas. Once installed, they kinda look the same as the originals, but they have a large chrome nut at the base instead of a smaller plastic stem. They are also a little shorter.
These "Square Base" antennas were originally used on all 69-70 Mustangs, and some late 1968 Mustangs and Cougars, but most 68s came with the "Round Base" versions.
